Context   This is the second edition of Saran’s Land Art trail, which has held in spring 2024, along a path laid out around the château de l’étang, which has been hosting visual arts exhibitions since 1989.
Intervention   Whether you’re looking for an unusual place to live, want to escape from the real world like a ‘perched baron’ 1, or are campaigning for a zone à défendre [ZAD], climbing and living in trees is a childhood dream that sometimes becomes reality. We suggest illustrating the point by installing various elements such as a small house, platforms, ladders… all painted the same red, and creating a kind of living space between several trees. The inhabitant of the place is not represented, leaving everyone free to imagine who he or she might be: tree lover, hermit, ‘écureuil’ 2?

1. Le baron perché, Italo Calvino, 1957.
2. Zone à défendre’ activists who perch in trees to oppose their felling have chosen to call themselves “écureuils” [squirrels].
